Des Moines County sees steady increase since 1999.

Local plant closings and easy Internet home purchases appear to be contributing to a marked increase in residential foreclosures in Des Moines County over the past five years.
According to data compiled by Cheryl McVey, county budget
director and assistant auditor, there were 12 foreclosures in the county in 1999. But in 2003, that number jumped to 76, and in 2004, there were 86, she said.
There have been 17 foreclosures in the first four months of 2005, McVey said.
'Already, that's more than for the whole year of 1999,' she said. "
